Dr. Kramer is reputable for giving the most honest, informed consultation, and never rushes a patient out the door. She will also talk with you about any additional considerations to make sure you are confident in your decision.
When Dr. Kramer examines a woman for breast enlargement, she takes into consideration several factors including: her height and weight, the size her your frame including shoulder width and rib cage circumference, her current breast size, as well as many other factors. Dr. Kramer uses this detailed information combined with your desired wishes to determine the appropriate new breast size for you.
There are ranges for what is considered normal breast size and most women just want to be at the top of the normal range. Many women want to have a full, natural look, what Dr. Kramer refers to as a “sexy normal.” They have a nice change in their shape, without crossing the natural line and looking obvious or artificial. This way, no one knows you have breast implants. On the other hand, some women may choose to have a large breast augmentation. Dr. Kramer will support your decision on your breast augmentation size to give you the best breast augmentation result possible.
Dr. Kramer will give you personalized guidance so you feel comfortable and excited for your natural looking breast augmentation surgery!
Breast Implant Shapes & Profiles
While there is a variety of options for shape and size of your breast implant, Dr. Kramer will always spend time with you while making your breast implant size decision. She can help you decide what size increase and shape would give you the figure you want and is here to help you make the best choice for your body.
When choosing your implant shape and size, your overall body shape, weight, height and breast tissue are all taken into consideration so that your implants look natural and proportionate to your body.
There are two shapes of breast implants, round and “teardrop,” which are also called contoured or anatomical. The profile of the breast implant refers to the projection of the implant.
Round Breast Implants
Round Breast implants are the most common breast implant shape used. Round implants can be saline or silicone. The round shape fills the upper part of the breast, which is otherwise the flattest part of the breast. The round breast shape is also most commonly used because of the natural breast shape it gives. Round shaped breast implants are also more popular because many find they give the most youthful, perky breast shape. If you see someone who looks like they have “stuck on balls” on their chest, it is because the implants are too large for their body to look normal or they did not heal properly, and not because of a round implant.
“Teardrop”, Anatomical & Contoured Breast Implants
Teardrop, anatomical, and contoured breast implants are all the same shaped implant. This implant is flattest at the top of the breast and has the most fullness in the lower breast. These implants are textured and many feel textured implants wrinkle more. The implant needs to fit the pocket precisely or the textured implant could move, rotate, or flip, causing breast asymmetry. For these reasons, this shape is less commonly chosen.
Dr. Kramer is the expert at giving you the most natural looking and flattering breast augmentation results no matter which shape of implant you desire.
Implants are available with different profiles, which mean different degrees of projection. The different projections are low, moderate, moderate plus, and high profile. The lower the profile, the flatter and wider the implant shape. The high profile implant has the highest projection and the narrowest diameter.
Please note that breast augmentation does not correct breasts that are severely drooping. A breast lift and augmentation procedure may be needed to correct sagging breasts. If Dr. Kramer recommends a breast lift, she will begin by listening to what you believe is the most attractive breast shape and will help inform you on how she will achieve your perfect shape through a breast lift.
Dr. Kramer will listen to what you want, and also review the photos of breasts you like. She will discuss your options and help guide you so you are truly comfortable, confident, and happy with your decision.
What Are the Different Types of Breast Implants?
What are Breast Implants made of?
All breast implants have an outer shell made of solid silicone. The outer surface of the breast implant can be smooth or textured.
Smooth implants are most commonly used because they move more freely like natural breasts.
Textured implants have a textured, irregular surface so healing tissue attaches to the implant, holding it more stiffly in place.
The two largest implant companies with the strongest reputation are MENTOR® and Allergan®. These companies have a strong history of safety and quality with their breast implants. Dr. Kramer believes you deserve the highest quality breast implants.

Breast Augmentation Recovery
Dr. Kramer and her staff pride themselves on being there for you every step of the way during your breast augmentation recovery. Dr. Kramer will call you after your procedure to follow up with you, answer any questions you may have, and make sure you are comfortable.
Dr. Kramer will discuss your recovery for breast augmentation with you in detail. Breast implant surgery is an outpatient procedure so you will go home a few hours after your procedure. You will be taken care of at our surgery center until you are ready to go home.
After your breast augmentation, Dr. Kramer will place a supportive breast wrap on you. She will remove it at your first post-operative appointment. You should rest and take pain medication for a few days after your procedure.
You will have swelling, so the implants will sit higher on your chest. As swelling decreases, the breasts become soft and the skin and muscle relax so the implants can settle into place. During the recovery of your breast augmentation, you should see implant settling begin within a few weeks, but your final result may take months before settling is complete.
Depending on your job, most patients will take 1 week off for a breast augmentation. Exercise, strenuous activity, and lifting should be avoided until you are instructed to resume.
Risks of Silicone Implants Saline Implants
There are risks with any procedure and Dr. Kramer will review all of the risks and complications with you personally. Dr. Kramer always says “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Every preventative precaution is taken to minimize the chance of a complication.
In a recent published study, 98% of women that underwent breast augmentation surgery say the results met or exceeded their expectations. Dr. Kramer’s breast augmentation patients have an exceptionally high patient satisfaction rate, proving this study to be true for her practice!
The most common complication is capsular contracture. This occurs when the normal capsule your body forms around the implant forms too much scar tissue. Capsular contracture may also be called “hardening” of breast implants. When this occurs the breast(s) may become hard and even painful.
The excess scar tissue tightens down around the implant and may change the shape of the breast. Capsular contracture can happen at any time, but it most often occurs in the first few years after surgery. Capsular contracture treatment may consist of removing scar tissue and/or removing or replacing the implants.
There are some known causes of capsular contracture like bleeding, infection, or smoking, but in some cases the cause is unclear. Dr. Kramer prefers to put the implant under the muscle to help prevent and decrease risks of capsular contracture and have a more natural breast feel and appearance.
Capsular contracture can be prevented by placing the breast implant under the chest muscle, massaging the breast, resting the arms while healing, and not smoking.
Breast Implant Leaking
Breast implants do not last a lifetime. You can expect the implant to leak and you will need to have the old implants removed and replaced with new breast implants. A breast implant can leak at any time, but usually the older the implant, the more likely it will leak.
Saline Breast Implant Leaking
The saline, or fluid in saline breast implants, is like natural body water. Saline is the same fluid that we put in our eyes with contact lenses or when a patient gets an IV. It is very safe. When a saline implant leaks, our body simply absorbs the saline like any other water. You will know if your implant has leaked because your breast will be smaller and deflated.
Silicone Breast Implant Leaking
The silicone in current breast implants is more cohesive or thicker than it was in the past. When this silicone leaks, you most likely will not know because the shape of the breast may stay the same. This is why the FDA recommends a breast MRI every 2 years to know if the silicone is leaking.
The leaking silicone may stay in the breast pocket capsule, which is the tissue that normally heals around the implant. No one can guarantee the silicone won’t travel elsewhere in your body, but the FDA feels that silicone is safe.
When replacing a ruptured or leaking silicone breast implant, it may be impossible to remove all of the leaked silicone from your body. Rarely does a woman have symptoms from leaking silicone implants, but it is possible.
Some of the leaking silicone implant symptoms include swelling, hard knots or lumps, uneven or smaller breast appearance, pain or tenderness, and changes in sensation such as burning, numbness, or tingling.
Usually there are no symptoms of leaking silicone. This is called a “silent rupture.”
